EMILY AND AMBER
Emily Hazelwood and Amber Sparks are marine conservation biologists and co-founders of Blue Latitudes LLC, a woman-owned marine environmental consulting firm. As marine consultants, their vision is to find silver linings in our oceans at the intersection of industry and the environment. Key examples of their work include re-purposing offshore infrastructure as artificial reefs and utilizing routine ROV maintenance surveys on offshore infrastructure to develop complex biological baselines. In 2018 Emily and Amber were listed on the Forbes 30 under 30 in the Energy Sector for their work to develop sustainable, creative, and cost-effective solutions for the environmental issues that surround the offshore energy industry.
Emily and Amber also co-founded the Blue Latitudes Foundation (BLF), a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to elevate the concept of traditional ocean stewardship by uniting government, industry and the community to work together to conserve our oceans and strengthen the communities they support. Given the human demand for ocean resources, the BLF aims to broaden the dialogue on traditional ocean conservation practices to find ways to use our oceans without using them up!
With over 1,000 hours logged underwater around the world, they literally and figuratively “dive-in” to their research. From repurposing offshore oil and gas platforms into artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico, to investigating ecotourism practices in Malaysia and Tonga - Amber and Emily are on a mission to inspire the world to think differently about the future of ocean conservation.

Jamie is the owner of JYNcreations on Etsy. She crochets plastic bags into little sea animals in an attempt to keep a little extra plastic out of our oceans, raise awareness of the plastic pollution problem, and to raise money for organizations that are actively cleaning up the plastic that is already polluting our oceans.
